How to Format Dates Across ISO, RFC, SQL, and Unix Time

Date strings are a compatibility minefield. This date formatter converts between ISO 8601, RFC 2822, SQL timestamps, Unix seconds/milliseconds, and custom format tokens, with timezone support, all in the browser.

Use the epoch converter when you only have a Unix timestamp, and the duration calculator when you need the elapsed time between two instants.

Tips

  • ISO 8601 with a trailing Z is UTC. Missing offsets are treated as local time in most APIs — be explicit.
  • SQL DATETIME usually has no timezone; store UTC and convert on display.
  • Milliseconds vs seconds is the most common Unix timestamp bug — 13-digit values are ms.
